    Posted: 20 Jul 2010 at 1:13pm

It's back, the most popular competition ever devised since "Lets read Liverpools transfer record over the past 15 years and try and keep a straight face". Just a quick reminder of the rules:

1) For every competitive fixture during the season, we try and predict the outcome and earn points for each prediction made as follows:

a) Result, ie QPR to Win, Lose or Draw:  2 points

b) Correct Score; eg 1-0 win:  4 points

c) QPR Goalscorer, select someone to score at any stage during the match. If you choose multiple scorers, the first player you mention will be deemed to be your selection for the purpose of this competition. You can also earn points for accurately predicting that we don't score: 2 points

2) The league table is updated every week and people can join in at any stage of the season.

3) The weekly league tables will be updated on this post.

4) Predictions are made under a seperate post, entitled with the match fixture, eg Bristol City Predictions.

5) Only one prediction is allowed per match, however, you may change your predictions before kick off.

The very best of luck and I hope you enjoy this years competition once again.

Table after Barnsley match.

It was a welcome start to the season and it is uplifting to see the club at the top of the table. The wholesale changes to the starting 11 from the end of last season seem to have been embedded fairly quickly over the pre-season and while nobody forecasted the 4-0 scoreline, nearly everyone predicted a home win. When was the last time we were awarded two penalties in a match? It remains to be seen whether we can continue with such good fortune this season. Lets hope it isn't just a flash in the pan, similar to what we experienced last autumn. I think with Flav not having a hands on role, expectations are more realistic this time around, which cannot be a bad thing.

Table after Port Vale match (League Cup)

Another inglorious Cup exit to add to the collection. A 3-1 defeat at home to a League 2 side, despite, what appeared to be on paper, a half decent selection. By some accounts, hoofball made an unwelcome return to our pattern of play last night. Unfortunately, last nights exercise just demonstrates that we have no strength in depth and that should our creative players who were not selected last night (Buz, Faurlin, Tarraabt) get injured, then we have little to look forward to this season.

Nobody predicted anything other than a home win, though Mark and I rescued something from the night by guessing that German would score and earned two points apiece to move to the top of the table.

Table after Blades match

Well, it's not the first time we've won at Bramall Lane, I recall a League Cup win back in 2003, but it was certainly emphatic. 3-0 up after 25 minutes and holding on to win by that score. For the second week running, the ref denied our opposition seemingly certain penalties, and get again, Adel earned us another penalty. I wonder how long it will take the Championship Referees Association to cop on to his diving antics?

So we are top of the league, denied first place by the fact that Millwall begins with M. I don't see anyone getting carried away, despite the fact that we are one of only two teams who have won their opening two league matches. This will be a wide open league and anyone who gains any kind of positive momentum will do very well. It looks as though if we keep our key players fit, that we are heading in the right direction.

Nobody predicted a 3-0 win, though Jerry and Kevin earned 4 apiece by correctly predicting a win and a goalscorer.

Table after Iron match

A two nil victory against Scunthorpe, the favourites for relegation, making it our third in a row on the opening weeks of the season. It ensures that we move back to the top of the league and are two points clear of the field. Everyone bar me predicted we'd win. Brendan bravely went as far to suggest that The Iceman would score and got duly rewarded. Kevin was the only person to forecast we'd win 2-0 and goes to the top of our table.

Table after Derby match.

Better late than never. Two goals in stoppage time earned the R's an unlikely draw away to Derby, where the Rams had battered us for the preceding 90 minutes. The equaliser ensured that we stay on top of the league for the next couple of weeks as there is an international weekend coming up (does anyone know how to get to Armenia by the way?). I wonder whether someone will use the expression "as sick as a Ram" in the tabloids?

To our own competition. Top Marks to Dave who had a perfect prediction with a 2-2 draw and Mackie to score. Lee also had the 2-2 draw and earned 6 points. I guessed a draw with Mackie to score and received 4 points, while Jerry and Mark picked up 2 apiece. This leaves us with a five way tie at the top of the table, that's nearly as tight as the championship!
